Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki was an esteemed Indian vocalist, composer, and scholar of Indian classical, semi-classical, and devotional music. Although the dates of his releases might not strictly pertain to the most recent era, his contributions continue to resonate in the world of Hindustani classical music. Born on 21st July 1929 in Mangeshi, Goa, Abhisheki strove for an innovative blend of the traditional with the modern, which became a hallmark of his musical journey. His rigorous training under the tutelage of several maestros, including Azmat Hussain Khan, Dattaram Wadkar, and Jagannathbua Purohit, enabled him to master an extensive repertoire that spanned across different gharanas (schools of music), allowing him to forge a unique style that was both fluid and disciplined.

Abhisheki was celebrated for his versatility - his command over khayal, thumri, and bhajan genres of music was remarkable. Moreover, he was recognized for his contribution to Marathi theatre music and was instrumental in the revival of Marathi musical plays (sangeet natak). Through his prolific work, including original scores for plays and films such as "Katyar Kaljat Ghusli," which remains a landmark in Marathi cinema and theatre, Jitendra Abhisheki not only touched the hearts of music connoisseurs but also left a lasting educational legacy, having mentored a number of students who went on to become prominent musicians. His passing in 1998 left a void in the fabric of Indian classical music, but his spirit endures through his timeless compositions and recordings, such as "Ghei Chhand Makarand," "Kata Rute Kunala," and "Lagi Kalejva Katar."
