Mark Fosson

Mark Fosson was an American singer-songwriter and an exceptional fingerstyle guitarist, whose roots in music trace back profoundly to the folk and blues traditions. Born in Kentucky, Fosson began his musical journey in the early 70s, developing a distinct acoustic style that resonated with the American Primitive Guitar genre. He came into the limelight in the late '70s when he sent a demo tape to John Fahey's Takoma Records. Fahey, who was a renowned fingerstyle guitarist and a pioneer of the American Primitive style, was impressed and planned to release Fosson's music. Unfortunately, Takoma was sold before Fosson's album could emerge, and his work remained shelved for several decades.

Years after the intended release, the recordings were rediscovered, leading to the posthumous release of "The Lost Takoma Sessions." Meanwhile, "Digging in the Dust: Home Recordings 1976" offered a glimpse into the genesis of Fosson's intricate fingerpicking compositions during that era. His later works, such as "KY" and "Solo Guitar," exhibit the maturity of his musicianship and his enduring devotion to the craft. Although Fosson passed away in 2018, his music continues to be celebrated by guitar enthusiasts and collectors of Americana, and his understated yet profound contributions to the acoustic guitar canon ensure that his legacy endures.
