Yazoo, known in North America as Yaz, was a seminal British synth-pop duo that formed in 1981, consisting of former Depeche Mode keyboardist Vince Clarke and singer Alison Moyet. The combination of Clarke's synthesizer melodies and Moyet's bluesy vocals created a distinctive sound that came to define the early 1980s music scene. Their debut album 'Upstairs at Eric's' was a commercial success and laid the groundwork for the band's short, yet impactful legacy.
Although their time together was brief, with Yazoo disbanding in 1983 after just two albums, the group left an indelible mark on pop music. Their second album, 'You And Me Both', further demonstrated the depth of their songwriting and strength of Moyet's emotive voice, reaching the top of the UK Albums Chart. Despite their split, the duo's music continued to be celebrated, with key tracks like "Only You" and "Situation" standing out as timeless classics in the synth-pop genre. In 2008, Yazoo reunited for a successful tour, resulting in the live album 'Reconnected Live', reminding the fans and the music world of the unique chemistry and influential sound that the duo had created during their short-lived collaboration.
