Dunwich

Dunwich is an Italian symphonic/gothic metal band formed in Rome in 1985. The band is notable for being one of the first to incorporate a female vocalist and symphonic elements, including brass instruments, into their music. Their inspiration often comes from Lovecraftian themes and other literary works. Over the years, Dunwich has released several albums, including *Sul monte il tuono* (1994), *Il chiarore sorge due volte* (1995), *Eternal eclipse of frost* (1998), and *Heilagmanoth* (2008). Their music has evolved to include elements of new wave gothic and metal sounds, making them a pioneering force in the symphonic metal genre.

Dunwich's lineup has changed over time, with Claudio Nigris being the constant member. The band has also participated in various projects, such as *The Tales of Edgar Allan Poe – A Symphonic Collection* and collaborations with other artists. In recent years, Dunwich has continued to release new material, including *Whispering Darkness* and a 2023 anthology titled *Horror at Red Hook – Anthology of the 1985/88 + revised unreleased tracks*. Their contributions to the symphonic metal scene have been recognized, with some critics considering them the first symphonic metal band.
