Andy Palacio was a Belizean musician and cultural activist who dedicated his life to preserving and promoting the Garifuna culture. Born in 1960, Palacio grew up in the Garifuna community of Barranco, Belize, where he was immersed in the traditional music and dance of his people. He began his musical career in the 1980s, forming the band Garifuna Collective, which toured internationally and released several albums. Palacio's music was a fusion of traditional Garifuna rhythms and contemporary influences, and he became known for his powerful vocals and passionate lyrics that celebrated Garifuna culture and history.
