MJ Wemoto is a multi-genre artist and producer hailing from Zimbabwe, born in Bulawayo and raised in Gweru. Known for blending styles like Amapiano, Sgija, and Kwaito, MJ Wemoto has carved out a unique musical space within the Zimbabwean and African music scenes. He initially got into music in the early 2000s while still in high school but took a break around 2009 due to personal challenges. After years away, he returned to music around 2020, encouraged by fellow artists, reigniting his passion and creativity.
Beyond his own music, MJ Wemoto is also recognized for his role as a tastemaker and curator with Moto Moto Music, where he hosted the African Album Review and Moto Moto Podcast. His platform aimed to showcase diverse African music beyond regional filters, giving exposure to artists from across the continent. MJ Wemoto’s work spans not only producing and performing but also supporting and promoting African music culture through independent labels and podcasts. His recent releases explore a broad range of sounds and continue to contribute to shaping the vibrant African music landscape.
