Daniel Pinkham

Daniel Pinkham was an American composer, organist, and teacher known for his prolific and stylistically diverse output, particularly in the realm of sacred and choral music. Born in 1923, he spent much of his life in the Boston area and was deeply involved in the music community there, including a long tenure as music director at King’s Chapel. His music is often praised for its clarity, elegance, and accessibility, combining elements of early music, neo-classicism, and modern tonalities.

Pinkham composed works for a wide variety of ensembles, but he had a special affinity for organ and choral settings. Over the course of his career, he produced hundreds of compositions, including cantatas, motets, chamber music, and concertos. He was also a respected educator, teaching for decades at institutions like the New England Conservatory. Through his teaching, performances, and compositions, Daniel Pinkham left a significant mark on American classical and liturgical music before his passing in 2006.
