Smile Empty Soul

Smile Empty Soul is an American post-grunge band formed in Santa Clarita, California in 1998. The group originally comprised Sean Danielsen (vocals, guitar), Ryan Martin (bass), and Derek Gledhill (drums), who came together to deliver angst-filled lyrics paired with a grunge-influenced sound that resonated with the alternative-rock scene of the early 2000s. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2003, spawned the hit single "Bottom of a Bottle" which helped them gain traction in the mainstream music world.

Over the years, Smile Empty Soul has experienced a few lineup changes while retaining Danielsen as the consistent frontman and core driving force behind their music. Despite the hurdles of being dropped from major labels and navigating the independent music scene, the band has continued to produce raw and emotive content, shown in their consistent release of albums and EPs like "Manifesto" and "2021 Instrumentals." With a discography punctuated by themes of disillusionment, personal struggle, and social commentary, Smile Empty Soul has maintained a loyal fan base and carved out a niche in the rock landscape. Their recent releases, including tracks like "Stars Align" and "Carry On," showcase the band's commitment to delivering heartfelt material while evolving their sound through the years.
