Genesis P-Orridge was an avant-garde artist, musician, and cultural provocateur known for challenging boundaries in both music and identity. They were a founding member of the experimental performance and sound art group COUM Transmissions, and later the groundbreaking industrial band Throbbing Gristle, which played a pivotal role in shaping the genre of industrial music in the 1970s. Known for their transgressive artistic vision, Genesis later co-founded Psychic TV, a multimedia project that blended elements of psychedelia, electronic music, and radical performance.
Beyond music, Genesis P-Orridge became a prominent figure in the exploration of gender and identity, especially through their collaborative "pandrogyny" project with romantic partner Lady Jaye, in which they pursued physical and spiritual unity through body modification. With a career spanning decades, Genesis remained a boundary-pushing force until their passing in 2020, influencing generations of artists in music, performance, and countercultural thought.
