Clay Kin is a collaborative music project spearheaded by Swiss percussionist Julian Sartorius and UK electronic artist Dan Nicholls. Their debut album, *Vevey*, released in 2025 on the Squama label, is a unique blend of improvised percussion and electronic soundscapes, recorded mostly outdoors in natural settings near the Swiss town of Vevey. The album captures the ambient sounds of nature like birdsong and rushing water, creating a genre-defying dialogue where rhythm, melody, and noise merge seamlessly. Clay Kin also functions as an audio-visual collective, with visual artist Lou Zon (Louise Boer) contributing videos that enhance both their recorded music and live performances.
The project emerged spontaneously rather than being planned, arising from over seven hours of improvisation. Sartorius’s organic percussion layers with Nicholls’s keyboard-triggered samples and harmonic textures, resulting in a deeply atmospheric and innovative sound experience. With *Vevey*, Clay Kin offers a fresh and immersive listening journey that bridges acoustic and electronic music in an evocative way.
