Petra
Petra is one of the pioneering bands in Christian rock, forming in 1972 and leaving a massive footprint on the genre over the following decades. Known for blending evangelical messages with arena rock and later more contemporary sounds, Petra helped shape the landscape of modern Christian music. With hits like “Beyond Belief” and albums such as Jekyll & Hyde and This Means War!, they earned numerous Grammy and Dove Awards, and became one of the best-selling Christian rock bands of all time.
Over the years, Petra went through several lineup changes, with guitarist and founding member Bob Hartman remaining a key figure. The band retired in 2005 after a farewell tour, but they’ve since reunited for special performances and projects under names like Classic Petra. With a discography that spans over three decades and influences that continue to echo in Christian rock, Petra is often credited with helping to legitimize rock music within the evangelical community.
