Cocanha

Cocanha is a vibrant French duo keeping Occitan folk traditions alive with a fresh, modern edge. Hailing from the Occitania region in southern France, Jan Ros and Marjorie Sanchez blend spirited vocals, tambourin à cordes (a traditional stringed drum), and harmonium to resurrect centuries-old songs in the Occitan language. Their music feels both earthy and playful, drawing from themes of nature, local legends, and everyday life in their culturally rich corner of Europe. Tracks like "Que Son Aüros" and "Puput" showcase their knack for transforming regional folklore into foot-stomping, hypnotic grooves that bridge past and present.

Since forming in 2015, Cocanha has collaborated with global artists and released albums that breathe new life into nearly forgotten oral traditions. Their work—including recent releases like "Colorina de Ròsa"—often feels like a communal celebration, mixing raw, trance-like rhythms with poetic storytelling. Whether reviving dance tunes or crafting original compositions rooted in Occitan culture, Cocanha’s music is a joyful rebellion against cultural homogenization.
