The Lambrettas

The Lambrettas are an English mod revival band that originated in the late 1970s. Named after the iconic Italian scooter brand Lambretta, which was popular among mods, the band was a part of the wave of mod revivalists that emerged in the UK at that time, a subculture initially peaking in the 1960s that saw a significant resurgence alongside the punk movement. The Lambrettas first garnered attention with their upbeat, power pop-infused sound, characterized by catchy melodies and sharp suit-and-tie image, reflecting the mod aesthetic.

Their first album, "Beat Boys in the Jet Age," released in 1980, received critical acclaim and gave them their biggest hit with the single "Poison Ivy," a cover of The Coasters' classic, which managed to outperform the original in the UK charts, attaining a top 10 position. The song's success solidified The Lambrettas' position in the music scene of the time. Though the band enjoyed a brief but fervent period of success and popularity amongst the mod community, they eventually disbanded in the early 1980s. In subsequent years, The Lambrettas have seen several reunions and continue to perform live, as evidenced by their "Poison Ivy (Live Sessions)" release, carrying the torch of the mod revival into the 21st century and celebrating the timeless vigor of their music with both original fans and new generations.
