Saosin is an American post-hardcore band that was formed in Orange County, California, in 2003. The band's name comes from the Chinese phrase "小心", which means "small heart" – a cautionary term for those who wear their emotions on their sleeves. Saosin burst onto the scene with their first EP, "Translating the Name," in 2003, which quickly garnered them a devoted following thanks to their emotive lyrics and a blend of melodic hardcore intensity coupled with anthemic post-hardcore.
The band underwent several changes in their lineup early in their career, most notably the departure of original vocalist Anthony Green and the subsequent arrival of Cove Reber. With Reber, Saosin released their self-titled debut album in 2006, which was met with significant commercial success, marking the band as one of the key players in the post-hardcore scene during that era. They followed up with their second full-length album "In Search of Solid Ground" in 2009, which continued to showcase their prowess in balancing melody with aggressive musicianship.
After a period of inactivity and rumors of a breakup, the band re-emerged with Green back at the helm, releasing "Along The Shadow" in 2016. This album marked the return to the high-energy sound that characterized their early work, much to the delight of long-time fans. Saosin's music has continued to evolve, as seen in their most recent releases, including a string of singles and EPs such as "The Grey" and "Racing Toward a Red Light," as well as acoustic and remixed versions of their holiday-themed song, "Mookies Last Christmas." Saosin's journey has been marked by their resilience and dedication to their art, ensuring their position as influential stalwarts within the post-hardcore and emo scenes.
