Neighbor

Neighbor is a dynamic band born from the long-standing friendship of childhood neighbors Richard James (vocals, keys) and Lyle Brewer (guitar), who reunited in 2018 after years apart to make music together again. Joined by Dan Kelly on bass and Dean Johnston on drums, the group blends ambitious songwriting, soulful balladry, and fearless improvisation to create a unique “down home” sound that spans Americana, funk, rock, jazz, and soul. Their diverse catalog of hundreds of songs and dedication to connecting with their passionate fan base, called the “Neighbors,” make them one of the most exciting and unpredictable live acts today.

Originally incubated through a weekly residency in Somerville, Neighbor grew steadily, fueled by the band’s groove-driven performances and strong community. Lyle Brewer departed the band in early 2025, with guitarist Rob Compa stepping in to continue the journey. After releasing a self-titled album in 2023 and many live recordings, Neighbor is back in the studio working on their second album, continuing to craft music that's rich in honest storytelling and vibrant jams.
