Streetlight Manifesto is a ska punk band that originated from New Brunswick, New Jersey, officially forming in 2002. The band was created by Tomas Kalnoky, who had previously achieved fame with the band Catch 22, of which he was the original lead singer and songwriter before leaving to attend college. Fusing the upbeat and brassy sounds of traditional ska with the fast-paced aggression of punk rock, Streetlight Manifesto quickly carved out their niche in the music scene with their intricate arrangements, thought-provoking lyrics, and energetic live shows. Their musicianship and the complex interplay of their brass section distinguish them within their genre.
Over the years, Streetlight Manifesto has released several critically acclaimed albums. Their debut album "Everything Goes Numb" was released in 2003 and immediately secured them a dedicated fan base within the punk and ska communities. This was followed by their reinterpretation of Kalnoky's previous work with Catch 22 in the album "Keasbey Nights" (2006), their sophomore effort "Somewhere in the Between" (2007), and a project covering various artists titled "99 Songs of Revolution Vol. 1" (2010). Their most recent studio album, "The Hands That Thieve" (2013), showcases the band's continued evolution and features a blend of tempos, introspective lyrics, and the band's signature horn-driven melodies, reaffirming Streetlight Manifesto's standing as one of the preeminent bands in the modern ska-punk movement. Their music, often centered around themes of existentialism, life's struggles, and individuality, resonates with a broad audience and has sustained their popularity over the years.
