LOWEN

LOWEN is a London-based progressive doom metal band formed in 2017, featuring **Nina Saeidi** on vocals and traditional Middle Eastern instruments, and **Shem Lucas** on guitar. Their music blends heavy doom and progressive metal with themes drawn from Mesopotamian history, Iranian mythology, and political exile. Nina, the daughter of Iranian refugees, uniquely incorporates traditional Iranian tahrir vocal techniques and sings in multiple languages, including ancient tongues like Akkadian and Sumerian. The band’s sound is often described as a mix of the atmospheric qualities of Dead Can Dance and the heaviness of Bolt Thrower, creating a powerful fusion of East and West.

They released their debut album *A Crypt in the Stars* in 2018 and followed up with the critically acclaimed *Do Not Go To War With The Demons Of Mazandaran* in 2024, which was celebrated for its profound exploration of Iranian myths and contemporary issues, receiving recognition from Metal Hammer, Kerrang, and Bandcamp. Their work captures the pain and longing of displacement while pushing the boundaries of progressive metal.
