Save Ferris is an American ska punk band that erupted onto the scene in the mid-90s during the third wave ska revival. The band formed in Orange County, California, in 1995, with the charismatic Monique Powell leading as the frontwoman. Their name is a nod to the popular 1986 John Hughes movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Save Ferris quickly became known for their blend of energetic ska, punk, and pop influences, coupled with Powell's vibrant and distinct vocals.
The group's 1997 debut album, "It Means Everything," was a commercial success, primarily due to their hit cover of Dexys Midnight Runners' "Come on Eileen," which became an enduring ska anthem and won them international acclaim. After the release of "Modified" in 1999, the band experienced changes and challenges that eventually led to their hiatus in the early 2000s. However, they made a triumphant return with the EP "Checkered Past" in 2017, offering a refreshed sound while still remaining true to their ska roots. Their live performances, captured in releases like "Live at the Belly Up," continue to showcase Save Ferris's dynamic energy and their ability to engage audiences after all these years. With Monique Powell as the sole original member, Save Ferris remains a beloved fixture in the ska and punk scenes, demonstrating their resilience and lasting appeal.
