Gert-Jan Prins is a Dutch musician born in 1961, known for his work in free improvisation and experimental electronic music. Initially, he started as a free jazz percussionist but later shifted his focus to producing and manipulating soundscapes using custom-built FM radio transmitters and receivers, drawing inspiration from pioneers like David Tudor. He's distinctive for exploring white and pink noise and is recognized as one of the Netherlands' most challenging sound artists. Prins is also a member of M.I.M.E.O., a large electronic orchestra led by Keith Rowe, and collaborates with other experimental musicians, often blending electronic noise with percussion and improvisation.
Over his long career, Prins has released numerous recordings, such as "Break Before Make" and is active in diverse projects that span performances, sound installations, and cross-disciplinary collaborations with visual artists and dancers. His work is highly conceptual yet engages with the sonic and musical qualities of electronic noise in dynamic and innovative ways, making him a notable figure in the avant-garde music scene.
