CIV

CIV is an American punk rock band that emerged from the vibrant New York hardcore scene in the mid-1990s. Named after its frontman, Anthony Civarelli (known simply as Civ), the band was formed following the hiatus of seminal hardcore group Gorilla Biscuits, of which Civ was also the lead singer. CIV clinched its own place in punk rock history with their debut album "Set Your Goals" in 1995, released through Revelation Records. The album is recognized for its catchy hooks and anthemic choruses, capturing the energy of hardcore punk while incorporating a melodic edge that broadened the band's appeal.

Following the success of "Set Your Goals," which featured the hit single "Can't Wait One Minute More," CIV continued to make waves in the punk scene with the release of their sophomore effort, "Thirteen Day Getaway," in 1998. This record saw the band experimenting with a more alternative rock sound, showcasing their versatility and growth. Over the years, the group's influence has persisted, and in 2008 they issued "B-Sides and Extras," a collection that offered fans new insights into CIV's creative process through rare and unreleased tracks. The cumulative work of CIV not only captures the essence of New York hardcore but also serves as a bridge between the subcultures of punk and the broader rock landscape of the 90s. Despite not being as active in recent years, CIV's music continues to be celebrated for its enduring spirit and remains a touchstone for punk rock aficionados.
