Duquende

Duquende, whose real name is Juan Rafael Cortés Santiago, is a prominent figure in the realm of Flamenco music, known for his soulful and passionate singing. Born on July 5, 1965, in Sabadell, Spain, he hails from a lineage of Gitano (Romani) heritage and has been immersed in the unique world of Flamenco since childhood. Duquende was discovered by the legendary guitarist Paco de Lucía, who invited him to join his sextet—an opportunity that significantly propelled his career and exposed him to international audiences.

Throughout his illustrious career, Duquende has collaborated with some of the most revered names in Flamenco, and his discography reflects a deep dedication to the traditional forms of the genre as well as an openness to innovative expressions. Albums like "Mi Forma de Vivir" and "Samaruco" have solidified his standing as one of Flamenco's exceptional contemporary cantaores (singers). More recently, his works such as "Tangos con Alegría" and "Por Fandangos" showcase his virtuosity in classical Flamenco styles, while "Mano a Mano: Parrita y Duquende" represents his collaborative spirit. Duquende continues to enchant audiences with his powerful voice and his profound understanding of Flamenco's emotional depth, both in studio recordings and in his dynamic live performances.
