Charlie Benante is best known as the longtime drummer for the pioneering thrash metal band Anthrax, which he joined in 1983. A powerhouse behind the kit, Benante's fast, precise style helped define the sound of East Coast thrash and played a major role in Anthrax becoming one of the genre's "Big Four" alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. In addition to drumming, he's also a talented guitarist and songwriter, contributing riffs and arrangements to many of the band's most iconic tracks.
Outside of Anthrax, Benante is involved in a number of musical projects, including Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D.) and more recently his solo releases like the covers collection Silver Linings, which features collaborations with musicians across the rock and metal spectrum. Known for his creativity both musically and visually—Benante often designs album art and merchandise—he remains a respected and influential figure in the metal community.
