ミドリ (Midori) was a four-member Japanese punk jazz band that made a significant impact on the underground music scene with their innovative blend of aggressive punk rock and technical jazz fusion. The group, based in Tokyo, was fronted by the charismatic vocalist and pianist Mariko Gotō. A hallmark of their sound was the chaotic yet calculated integration of various musical elements. They were known for their frenetic live performances, where Gotō's powerful presence and the group's high energy would often captivate and electrify audiences.
Beginning in the mid-2000s, ミドリ quickly distinguished themselves within the Japanese music landscape. Their works, such as "あらためまして、はじめまして、ミドリです。" (Hello everyone, nice to meet you, we are Midori) and "Shinsekai" showcase their raw and unbridled approach to music. Despite their relatively short career, the band released several albums and EPs that garnered a cult following. The band eagerly experimented with style and composition, which contributed to their distinctive sound, and although they disbanded in 2010, their musical legacy continues to influence and inspire a new generation of musicians who challenge the boundaries of genre.
