Malaria!

Malaria! was an influential German post-punk band that melded the gloomy aesthetics of the European underground scene with experimental electronic elements and an avant-garde approach to music-making. Formed in 1981 in West Berlin by Gudrun Gut and Bettina Köster following the dissolution of their previous band, Mania D, Malaria! quickly became a part of the city's vibrant and burgeoning music scene. They were joined by Christine Hahn on drums, Manon P. Duursma on bass, and Susanne Kuhnke who rounded out the line-up with her keyboard skills. The band gained recognition not only for their music but also for their strong presence in the Neo-Expressionist performance art scene that was prevalent in Berlin at the time.

Malaria!'s discography includes several influential releases that capture the band's innovative style and unapologetic drive. Among their works, "Kaltes Klares Wasser" stands out as a single that has stayed relevant over years, being remixed and rediscovered by new generations. Their other records like "Compiled 2.0 / 1981-84" and "Compiled 1981-1984" offer a retrospective look at their early years and underscore their importance in shaping the post-punk and No Wave movements of the 1980s. Despite disbanding in the mid-'80s, Malaria!'s legacy has endured, with their music continuing to inspire artists and being subject to reissues and compilations like "M_SESSIONS - RARE ORIGINALS", which showcases their raw and visceral live performances.
