88 Fingers Louie is a band synonymous with the spirited hardcore punk scene that took hold in Chicago in the early 1990s. Named after a piano-playing gangster in The Flintstones cartoon, the group was formed in 1993 and quickly became known for their frantic punk melodies, incisive lyrics, and breakneck drumming. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Denis Buckley, guitarist Dan Wleklinski (Mr. Precision), bassist Joe Principe (later of Rise Against), and several drummers throughout their initial run, including John Carroll and Glenn Porter.
After gaining traction with their energizing live shows, 88 Fingers Louie established themselves with albums like "Behind Bars" and "Back On The Streets," both of which received critical acclaim in punk circles for their aggressive yet melodious approach. Despite disbanding in 1999 following internal tensions and line-up changes, the band's influence endured in the punk community. Their legacy was celebrated with "The Dom Years" a compilation that featured early works with drummer Dom Vallone. After reuniting a few more times over the years, 88 Fingers Louie returned in full force, releasing the comeback album "Thank You for Being a Friend" in 2017. The record sees the band rejuvenate their classic sound with contemporary flair, injecting wisdom and experience into their time-tested formula of punk rock, which is also exemplified in their EP "Advice Column." With a dedicated fanbase and a determination to continue their musical journey, 88 Fingers Louie remains an enduring figure in the punk rock genre.
