Julian Azkoul is a versatile Anglo-Lebanese violinist and artistic director known for his leadership skills and diverse musical engagements. Born primarily in Geneva, Switzerland, he was exposed to music from a young age, thanks to his family's strong musical background. His father, Jad Azkoul, is a classical guitarist, which influenced Julian's early musical journey. Julian studied at King's College, Cambridge, and the Royal Academy of Music, learning from renowned pedagogues like Stéphane Tran Ngoc and Mateja Marinkovic. He has worked with numerous orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and Les Siècles Orchestra, and has featured as a guest concertmaster in Sweden and Switzerland with Camerata Nordica and Camerata Venia.
As a seasoned musician, Julian co-leads various ensembles and is the artistic director of the United Strings of Europe, an ensemble dedicated to performing a mix of classical and contemporary music. He also holds the position of first violinist in the Aurea Quartet. Julian's recent performances include arrangements and collaborations on works by Stravinsky, Purcell, and other renowned composers. His commitment to music education is further evident in his role as a teacher at the Southbank International School in London. Despite his extensive freelance career, Julian continues to nurture the United Strings of Europe, focusing on commissioning new music and enhancing cultural exchanges.
