Henri Herz

Henri Herz (1803–1888) was an Austrian-born French composer, pianist, and teacher who was a major figure in the 19th-century piano world. Known for his virtuosic playing and crowd-pleasing compositions, Herz was especially popular during the early Romantic era. He wrote numerous piano concertos, solo pieces, and études, often showcasing a light, brilliant style that emphasized technical flair. Though his music eventually faded in popularity compared to contemporaries like Chopin and Liszt, Herz left a lasting impact on piano pedagogy and even co-founded the famous piano manufacturing firm Pleyel, Wolff & Cie. Later in life, he taught at the Paris Conservatoire, helping shape the next generation of pianists.
