Barathrum

Barathrum is a Finnish black/doom metal band that has held a notorious presence in the underground metal scene. Formed in 1990 in Kuopio, and later based in Helsinki, the band quickly became known for their signature blend of crushing doom-laden riffs, rasping black metal vocals, and an atmosphere steeped in occult and satanic themes. Over the years, their lineup has seen various changes but the band has remained under the guidance of founding member, bassist, and vocalist Demonos Sova.

Throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium, Barathrum has maintained a prolific output, marked by their dark and heavy sound. With albums like "Infernal" (1997), which showcased their propensity for combining slow and heavy passages with bursts of black metal ferocity, they have built a loyal following. In their latter releases, including "Venomous" (2002), "Anno Aspera 2003 Years After Bastard's Birth" (2005), and "Fanatiko" (2017), Barathrum continued to evolve, refining their sound, yet never straying far from their roots that intertwine the grimness of black metal with the weight of doom. Albums like "Legions of Perkele" (1998) and "Saatana" (1999) are often celebrated as cornerstones in their discography, cementing their status as Finnish metal stalwarts. Their work, intense and somber, reverberates with themes of darkness and infernal imagery, consistently delivering a profound impact on their devoted audience.
