The Cantata Collective is an ensemble of renowned early-music luminaries based in the San Francisco/Oakland area of California, founded in September 2017. The group is dedicated to performing J.S. Bach's extensive repertoire, including his over 200 cantatas. The ensemble features notable musicians such as Marc Schachman on oboe, Kati Kyme and Lisa Weiss on violin, Anthony Martin on violin and viola, and William Skeen on cello. The Cantata Collective aims to present these iconic works as a cultural treasure, offering them free of charge to the public.
Under the guidance of esteemed conductors like Nicholas McGegan, the Cantata Collective has embarked on ambitious recording projects. Their initiatives include a series to record all of Bach's cantatas, as well as major choral works like the Mass in B Minor and the St. John Passion. These recordings are praised for their musical caliber and audio quality, contributing significantly to the preservation and dissemination of Bach's masterpieces. Through performances and recordings, the Cantata Collective seeks to foster a global appreciation for Bach's music, sharing it with diverse audiences while maintaining the highest artistic standards.
