Napoleón Zayas was a Cuban musician and composer who played the tres, a traditional Cuban string instrument. He was born in Havana in 1912 and began playing the tres at a young age. Zayas was a prolific composer and wrote over 1,000 songs, many of which became classics of Cuban music. He was also a talented performer and toured extensively throughout Latin America and the United States. Zayas died in Havana in 1998 at the age of 86.
