Requiem Laus

Requiem Laus is a melodic death/doom metal band hailing from Madeira Island, Portugal, active since the 1990s. Originally formed in 1989 under the name Morbidatory by guitarist/vocalist Miguel Freitas, they transitioned through the name Requiem in 1992 before settling on Requiem Laus in 1994. The lineup stabilized in 1997 and remained unchanged for decades, creating a blend of death metal ferocity and melancholic melodies influenced by bands like Paradise Lost, Death, and At the Gates. Their name pays homage to Mozart’s *Requiem* (*Laus* meaning “praise”), reflecting their atmospheric approach. Recent releases like *Last Winter* (a 2017 EP) and earlier works like *Promo 2006* showcase their evolving sound, balancing raw aggression with doom-laden introspection. Active for over 30 years, they remain a cult favorite in Portugal’s metal underground.
