Peter Havlicek

Peter Havlicek is an Austrian musician born in Vienna in 1963, known especially for his mastery of the Vienna harp-guitar, or Kontragitarre, as well as jazz guitar, composition, and vocals. After studying classical and jazz guitar with Harry Pepl at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz, earning his diploma in artistic jazz guitar in 1991, Havlicek embarked on a career that blends Viennese traditional music with jazz and classical influences. He co-founded several ensembles, including the duo Steinberg and Havlicek, Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln, and the group Des Ano. His work is noted for renewing Viennese music by crossing the boundaries between Schrammelmusik, jazz, and classical styles.

Peter Havlicek has performed widely in Vienna's prominent theaters and collaborated with a diverse array of artists from various genres. He is recognized for his compositions and arrangements in Neue Wiener Tanz as well as theater and film music. His music reflects a deep connection to Viennese culture while embracing innovative, genre-defying sounds, making him a distinctive figure in Austria's contemporary music scene.
