Spinvis is a Dutch one-man music project centered around Erik de Jong, born on February 2, 1961, in Spijkenisse, South Holland. De Jong's musical journey began early, influenced by his parents, who were both musicians. He started playing in bands as a teenager, joining his brother's punk rock band Blitzkrieg (later known as The Duds) and later forming the new wave band Hi-Jinx. After a hiatus from music, during which he worked as a mail sorter and conductor, De Jong began recording music under the name Spinvis in the late 1990s. His breakthrough came in 2001 when he sent a demo to Excelsior Recordings, leading to a record deal and the release of his self-titled debut album in 2002. This album received critical acclaim and established Spinvis as a prominent figure in the Dutch music scene.
Spinvis is known for his experimental lo-fi music style, often recorded in his home studio. His albums have been well-received, with his debut and live album "Nieuwegein aan Zee" achieving Gold certification in the Netherlands. His fifth studio album, "7.6.9.6.," reached number one on the Dutch Albums Chart. Spinvis has also collaborated with other artists and contributed to various projects, including soundtracks and live performances with orchestras. His unique sound and creative approach have earned him a dedicated following and numerous awards in the Dutch music industry.
