Marek Weber

Marek Weber was a prominent German bandleader and violinist, best known for his work during the 1920s and 1930s. As the leader of one of the most popular dance orchestras in Weimar-era Berlin, he became a defining figure in pre-war European light music. His orchestra was known for its elegant arrangements and highly polished performances, often featuring a mix of classical influences and contemporary dance rhythms. Weber recorded extensively during this time, collaborating with notable composers and bringing popular tunes to life for radio broadcasts and record releases.

Despite his popularity, Weber's career in Germany was disrupted by the political climate of the 1930s. Being Jewish, he was forced to leave Germany after the rise of the Nazi regime. He emigrated to the United States, where he continued to perform and record, although on a smaller scale compared to his earlier success in Europe. His recordings—especially those featuring songs by composers like Willi Kollo and Walter Jurmann—remain cherished examples of early 20th-century European light music.
