Jah Division

Jah Division is a pioneering Russian reggae band formed in the early 1990s in Moscow. Founded by Herbert "Gera" Morales, the son of Cuban revolutionary Leopoldo Morales who was an associate of Che Guevara, the band has earned a cult status among reggae fans in Russia and the CIS. Jah Division played a key role in bringing Rastafarian culture to Russia and influencing many contemporary Russian reggae acts. They gained early TV exposure in 1992 and have been active ever since, known for their reggae and dub sound and collaborations, including an album with the Polish band Dubska. Beyond niche reggae circles, Jah Division remains a significant and well-respected presence in the Russian music scene.

There is also a separate Brooklyn-based dub project called Jäh Division, which emerged in the early 2000s DIY scene and is known for psychedelic dub covers of Joy Division songs. However, this is a distinct entity from the Russian Jah Division and has a different musical background and style.
