Dan Ar Braz

Dan Ar Braz, born Daniel Le Bras on January 15, 1949, in Quimper, Brittany, France, is a Breton guitarist and a prominent figure in Celtic music. His affinity for blending traditional Celtic melodies with contemporary folk and rock elements has made him a fundamental force in the evolution of Celtic music. While his early career in the 1970s saw him exploring various genres, including a stint with the British folk-rock band Fairport Convention, it is his solo work, deeply rooted in his Breton heritage, that has garnered him significant acclaim.

Renowned for his role in bringing Breton music to a broader audience, Dan Ar Braz established himself with albums like "Acoustic" and "Musique pour les silences à venir," showcasing his distinct style that respects tradition while embracing modernity. In the 1990s, his vision of a Breton musical collective came to life with the L'Héritage des Celtes project, a massive ensemble that celebrated the Celtic diaspora through expansive live performances and recordings, notably "Zénith" and "Finisterres." His recent projects, such as "Célébration d'un héritage (Live)" and "Comptines celtiques et d'ailleurs," continue his exploration and celebration of Celtic and Breton music, merging his expert guitar work with the cultural sounds he holds dear. Whether performing solo or collaborating with other artists, Dan Ar Braz's work remains a testament to the vibrant legacy of Celtic music and its continuous evolution.
