Gianna D'Angelo was an American coloratura soprano, born Jane Angelovich on November 18, 1929, in Hartford, Connecticut. She studied at The Juilliard School in New York City with Giuseppe De Luca and later in Venice, Italy, under Toti Dal Monte, who advised her to italianize her name. D'Angelo made her debut in 1954 at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome as Gilda in Verdi's *Rigoletto*, a role she became closely associated with throughout her career. She performed at major opera houses in Italy and internationally, including the Paris Opéra, Glyndebourne Festival, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she debuted in 1961.
D'Angelo's repertoire included roles like Lucia in *Lucia di Lammermoor*, Rosina in *Il barbiere di Siviglia*, and the Queen of the Night. She made a few notable recordings, including *La bohème* with Renata Tebaldi and *Rigoletto* with Renato Capecchi. After retiring from performance, she taught voice at the Jacobs School of Music from 1970 to 1997. Gianna D'Angelo passed away on December 27, 2013, leaving behind a legacy as one of the prominent opera singers of her time.
