Pantxoa Carrere

Pantxoa Carrere is a Basque musician known primarily as one half of the iconic Basque folk duo Pantxoa eta Peio alongside Peio Ospital. Born in 1948 in the French Basque Country, Carrere began his musical journey in the 1960s, deeply influenced by the Basque cultural revival and politically charged lyrics, often setting to music the verses of poet Telesforo Monzón. The duo gained prominence for their stirring songs about Basque identity, resistance against Franco's regime, and the hope for freedom, becoming a voice for Basque nationalism and culture during difficult times. They have been active since 1969 and continue to perform and record, blending traditional Basque folk with contemporary influences.

In recent years, Pantxoa Carrere has also pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as "Anaitasunean" and "Esperantzan," the latter being his second solo project centered around themes of hope and light, showcasing a mix of folk and pop sounds. Despite his decades-long career, he remains a significant figure in Basque music, continuing to share his cultural heritage with new audiences.
