Wolfgang Dauner

Wolfgang Dauner was a groundbreaking German jazz pianist, composer, and innovator who left an indelible mark on Europe’s experimental music scene from the 1960s onward. Born in Stuttgart in 1935, Dauner blended free jazz, avant-garde electronics, and rock into a fearless, genre-defying sound. He co-founded the legendary United Jazz + Rock Ensemble and became a pioneer of fusion with projects like Et Cetera, while albums like *Elektronische Mythen* showcased his playful embrace of synthesizers and electronic textures. Known for his collaborative spirit, Dauner’s live recordings—including *Live at the Bern Jazz Festival* and *80 Jahre*—capture his improvisational brilliance and boundary-pushing energy. A restless creative until his passing in 2020, Dauner’s legacy lives on as a trailblazer who reimagined what jazz could be.
