Reigning Sound

Reigning Sound is a garage rock band founded by Greg Cartwright in 2001 in Memphis, Tennessee. Known for fusing raucous rock and roll energy with heartfelt songwriting, the band built a loyal following with their unique blend of garage punk, soul, and vintage rhythm and blues. Cartwright, who had previously been a member of The Oblivians and Compulsive Gamblers, brought a more soulful and melodic sensibility to Reigning Sound, making them stand out in the garage rock revival scene.

Over the years, Reigning Sound released acclaimed albums like Love and Curses, Shattered, and A Little More Time with Reigning Sound. Their sound often reflected Cartwright’s deep love for classic Memphis soul as well as gritty rock and roll, resulting in rich, emotionally resonant songs that felt both timeless and raw. The band worked with labels like Merge Records and In the Red, and collaborated with artists such as Mary Weiss of The Shangri-Las, further cementing their influence in modern garage rock.
