Cheo Feliciano

Cheo Feliciano, born José Luis Feliciano Vega on July 3, 1935, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, was one of salsa music's most revered soneros (singers) and a distinctive voice in the world of Latin music. Feliciano's career began in the heyday of mambo and progressed through the salsa era, where he left an indelible mark with his suave voice and romantic tunes. Throughout the 1950s, he honed his craft performing with local bands, leading to his breakthrough with the Joe Cuba Sextet in 1957. His time with the sextet earned him acclaim and popularity, setting the stage for a successful solo career.

Over the years, Cheo Feliciano became known for his smooth vocals, impeccable timing, and heartfelt interpretations of boleros and salsa tunes alike. He recorded numerous albums that solidified his status as a salsa legend, with works like "Cheo Feliciano y la Rondalla Venezolana" showcasing his versatility by blending different genres and styles. His later releases such as "Salsa Legends" and "Cosas del alma" reflect a lifetime dedicated to refining the genre and his craft. Feliciano passed away in 2014, but his legacy lives on through his significant contributions to Latin American music and his timeless recordings, including "El Ratón" and "Nosotros," that continue to inspire new generations of musicians and music lovers worldwide.
