René Wohlhauser is a multifaceted Swiss musician born in 1954 in Zurich and raised in Brienz. He is best known as a composer, pianist, baritone singer, improviser, conductor, and music teacher, with a prolific output exceeding 2,200 works across a broad stylistic spectrum. His music spans contemporary classical, jazz, rock, and vocal repertoire, reflecting his varied experiences and artistic versatility. Wohlhauser studied composition with prominent figures such as Robert Suter, Klaus Huber, and Brian Ferneyhough, and has performed widely across Europe and beyond with his ensembles. He has received numerous international composition awards and has released numerous portrait CDs of his works. In addition to composing and performing, he teaches composition and music theory at the Basel Music Academy and Kalaidos University of Music in Zurich.
