Tjoek Soeparlan is an Indonesian musician who has dedicated his life to promoting the traditional Indonesian bamboo instrument known as the angklung. Born in Bandung, West Java, Soeparlan began playing the angklung at a young age and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. He went on to study music at the Bandung Institute of Technology and later founded the Saung Angklung Udjo, a cultural center dedicated to preserving and promoting the angklung.
Soeparlan's music is characterized by its intricate melodies and rhythms, which he creates by playing multiple angklungs simultaneously. He has performed all over the world, including at the World Music Festival in London and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. In addition to his musical career, Soeparlan is also a respected educator and has written several books and articles on the angklung. He is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Indonesian National Arts Award and the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Award.
