Julie Nishimura is an accomplished pianist who served as the Faculty Accompanist at the University of Delaware School of Music for 31 years, during which she performed over 600 recitals, chamber music concerts, and opera performances while teaching accompanying classes. She has also been a key collaborative artist, participating in music festivals such as Philadelphia International Music Festival and California Summer Music, and continues to work as a freelance artist involved with West Edge Opera, Opera Delaware, and various chamber music groups. Beyond performance, Julie has been the Artistic Director of Distant Voices Touring Theatre, a non-profit group she founded with her late husband, which presents a theatrical show underscored by piano music relating to her father's experience in Japanese American WWII concentration camps.
Julie Nishimura has recorded extensively, with work featured on labels including Bridge, Albany, and Navona, and has premiered several concerti written for her. Currently, she splits her time between the San Francisco Bay Area, where she plays with The Class Act Big Band and Classical Revolution SF, and the East Coast, enjoying a variety of musical projects ranging from classical to more casual coffee shop performances. Her versatility and dedication have made her a respected figure in both the classical and collaborative music communities.
