Medium-Terzett was a German music group known for their contributions to the schlager and folk music genres. Formed in the 1950s, the trio consisted of Helmut "Henry" Niekamp, Wilfried Witte, and Lothar Nitschke. They first performed in 1954 at a fire department festival in Melle and gained popularity after being discovered by Peter Frankenfeld in 1960. The group participated in the first German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden in 1961, where their song "Südsee-Ballade" reached sixth place. They are also famous for hits like "Der ganze Kahn ist voller Heimweh," "Der Schatz im Silbersee," "Winnetou," and "Buffalo Bill," which often drew inspiration from the popular Winnetou films. Their biggest successes came with songs like "Ein Loch ist im Eimer" and "Drei Chinesen mit dem Kontrabass." The group remained active until the 1980s, frequently appearing on television and radio shows.
Medium-Terzett's legacy includes numerous albums and singles, with notable appearances in shows like "Zum Blauen Bock," where they hold the record for the most guest appearances. Over the years, the group's members faced personal milestones, including the passing of Lothar Nitschke in 1999 and Helmut Niekamp in 2015. Despite some confusion regarding Wilfried Witte's status, he was reported to be alive as of 2017. The group's music continues to be celebrated for its nostalgic charm and contributions to German popular music.
