Kontravoid is a Toronto-based electronic music project founded by musician Cameron Findlay. Emerging from the dark underbelly of synth-pop and EBM (Electronic Body Music), Kontravoid has carved out a formidable reputation with a sound that melds danceable rhythms with an aggressive, dark sonic palette. Findlay, who previously drummed for the likes of Crystal Castles and Parallels, launched his solo project in the early 2010s and has established a strong identity within the modern synth landscape through his self-titled debut in 2012 and subsequent releases.
Kontravoid's sound is characterized by its blend of relentless beats with haunting vocal lines and commanding synth work. With a prolific streak in the realm of remixing, Kontravoid has left a notable imprint on tracks by various artists, showcasing a unique ability to reinterpret and inject new life into existing works. Standout remixes such as "Oro Y Muerte," "Burn the World," and "Just One Touch" have gained acclaim for their transformative quality and artistry. Original creations like "Faceless" and a refreshed version of "Silent Visions" from 2020, coupled with the energetic live album "Live from the Void," demonstrate the raw and immersive experience that Kontravoid brings to both the studio and the stage. As he continues to evolve with each release, Kontravoid remains an intriguing and influential figure in the contemporary electronic music scene.
