Icebreaker

**Icebreaker** is a UK-based new music ensemble founded in 1989 by James Poke and John Godfrey, specializing in energetic interpretations of post-minimalist and contemporary compositions. Known for their self-described mission to make "contemporary music with balls," the 12-piece group collaborates with renowned creators like Philip Glass, Julia Wolfe, and Anna Meredith, blending electronics with live instrumentation. Their recent work includes a 2021 monthly digital singles series featuring reimagined tracks and new arrangements, such as *Rubric* (from Glass’s *Glassworks*), *Black Origami* (a Jlin adaptation), and Anna Meredith’s pulsating *Nautilus*. Icebreaker has performed globally, including at New York’s Bang on a Can Festival and London’s Southbank Centre, championing works by Louis Andriessen, Brian Eno, and Kraftwerk alongside emerging composers. Their discography spans albums like *Terminal Velocity*, *Cranial Pavement*, and collaborations on genre-defining compilations.
