Welton Irie

Welton Irie, born Welton Dobson in Jamaica, is a notable reggae deejay known for his contributions to the music scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He began his career performing under the simpler moniker "Welton," particularly for Big John's Stereophonic Sound, later known as Echo Tone Hi Fi, from 1976 to 1981. His style is characterized by DJ/toasting and dancehall influences, typical of the reggae genre during that period. Some of his notable works include "One And One = Two," "Roots Rock Reggae," "Hard Sound Fi Dead," and "Lamb's Bread."

Welton Irie's career flourished during a pivotal time in Jamaican music, where the call-and-response pattern was a common feature in reggae. His contributions to the genre have placed him alongside other influential figures in the reggae scene. Despite being active in the past, his current activity is not well-documented, but his legacy as a pioneering figure in the early days of reggae remains significant.
