Leon Jessel was a German composer who lived from 1871 to 1942. He's best known for his operettas, particularly "Schwarzwaldmädel" (The Black Forest Girl), which became one of the most popular German operettas of the 20th century. Jessel also composed other works, including the famous "Parade of the Tin Soldiers," which has been used in many films and cartoons over the years.
Despite his success as a composer, Jessel faced persecution during the Nazi era due to his Jewish heritage. His works were banned by the Nazi regime, and he tragically died in 1942 after being arrested by the Gestapo.
