STS9

Based in Santa Cruz, California, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9) is a collective known for its unique blend of live rock instrumentation fused with electronic music elements. Formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in the late 1990s, the band consists of Hunter Brown (guitar/sequences), Jeffree Lerner (percussion), David Phipps (keyboards/synthesizers), Zach Velmer (drums), and Alana Rocklin (bass), who replaced original bassist David Murphy in 2014. Over the years, STS9 has established itself as a fixture in the jam band scene, with its music transcending traditional genre boundaries by integrating aspects of psychedelic rock, jazz, drum and bass, hip hop, and funk into their improvisational performances.

Known for their impressive live shows that merge intricate lights and immersive visuals with their sonorous jams, STS9 has a dedicated fanbase and has become a staple on the festival circuit, with standout performances at events like Bonnaroo and Electric Forest. Their discography, including their most recent releases such as "Highlights 2023: Bonnaroo," "Highlights 2023: NOLA," and "The Universe Inside," showcases the band's evolution and adeptness in crafting both atmospheric pieces and rhythmically intense anthems. As a band that defies the constraints of electronic and jam band stereotypes, STS9 continues to push the boundaries of live electronic performance, creating a unique auditory experience that captivates audiences around the world.
